Scientific Games has once again been re-certified under the World Lottery Association’s (WLA) Responsible Gaming Framework, reaffirming its commitment to player protection and responsible gaming.
This accreditation follows an independent global audit assessing the company’s responsible gaming strategies across its worldwide operations. Scientific Games first secured WLA certification in 2015 for its European business and has since maintained its status through multiple re-certifications. In 2022, the company achieved global certification after launching its Healthy Play programme, an initiative providing lotteries with responsible gaming tools, educational materials, and best practice guidelines.
Industry Recognition for Responsible Gaming Initiatives
The WLA framework evaluates various aspects of responsible gaming, including research, employee training, advertising standards, and regulatory engagement. Mélissa Azam, Senior Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at WLA, highlighted Scientific Games’ proactive approach:
“Scientific Games has demonstrated best-in-class integration of responsible gaming tools and research into digital platforms. Their work reflects a strong understanding of their role as a supplier committed to harm minimisation and ethical gaming practices.”
CEO Pat McHugh reinforced the company’s dedication to responsible gaming:
“We remain focused on evolving our Healthy Play programme to help our lottery partners strengthen their responsible gaming efforts and build greater public trust.”
Potential Move in the Italian Lottery Market
Beyond its responsible gaming achievements, Scientific Games is also rumoured to be involved in a joint bid for Italy’s national lottery licence, in partnership with Flutter and private equity firm Brookfield.
Although no official statement has been made, the proposed partnership would see Scientific Games working with Sisal, Flutter’s Italian lottery brand. The bidding process is still ongoing, with a final deadline set for 17 March 2025.
Expanding Global Lottery Partnerships
Scientific Games continues to strengthen its global lottery presence, recently securing a 10-year contract with the New Mexico Lottery while maintaining partnerships with European operators such as FDJ and Allwyn, the UK’s national lottery operator.
With its latest WLA re-certification, Scientific Games remains at the forefront of responsible gaming, ensuring compliance with international standards as regulatory scrutiny on player protection and ethical marketing continues to grow.
