GiG Software Completes Major African Acquisition
Gaming Innovation Group, through its subsidiary GiG Software Plc, has completed the acquisition of an 80% stake in 888AFRICA for €16.4 million, marking a significant step in the group’s expansion into Africa’s regulated online betting and gaming markets.
The transaction was completed following the fulfilment of the conditions set out in a share purchase agreement signed on 28 September 2026. The acquisition was confirmed by GiG Software on 1 October 2026.
The deal sees GiG take a majority ownership position in an established African consumer-facing betting and gaming operator, broadening the group’s activities beyond its traditional business-to-business technology and services offering.
€16.4 Million Deal Includes Staged Payments
The total consideration for the acquisition amounts to €16.4 million. GiG Software paid €6.1 million upon completion, with the remaining €10.3 million scheduled to be paid in instalments over the following ten months.
The staged payment structure allows the company to complete the transaction while spreading the remaining consideration across the months following completion.
The acquisition follows an agreement announced in September and forms part of GiG’s wider strategy to strengthen its business through established operators with existing market positions and opportunities for further development.
888AFRICA Strengthens GiG’s Presence in Regulated Markets
888AFRICA operates in several African markets, holding licences in Angola and Tanzania while maintaining a leading position in Mozambique’s betting and gaming sector.
The business has grown since its launch in late 2022, developing an established customer base across its operating markets. According to GiG’s September announcement, 888AFRICA had reached an annualised net gaming revenue run rate of approximately $50 million.
The acquisition gives GiG access to an existing consumer-facing operation, providing a route into markets where local knowledge, regulatory compliance and established customer relationships are important to long-term growth.
The African online gaming sector presents opportunities for operators as internet access, mobile technology and regulated digital services continue to develop. However, each market has its own licensing requirements and operating conditions.
A New Direction for GiG Software
GiG Software is primarily known as a business-to-business technology provider, supplying products and services to online betting and gaming operators internationally.
By acquiring a majority stake in 888AFRICA, the company is adding a business-to-consumer operation to its portfolio. This creates a closer connection between its technology capabilities and the delivery of betting and gaming services to end users.
GiG expects the combination to provide greater scale, geographic diversification and opportunities to develop its product offering across established African markets.
The group has also identified potential benefits from integrating its technology with 888AFRICA’s existing operations, although the extent of any future efficiencies will depend on the integration process and subsequent business performance.
Supporting Long-Term Growth
GiG Software chief executive Richard Carter described the acquisition as an important milestone in the company’s growth strategy, highlighting 888AFRICA’s established market positions and potential for further expansion.
The transaction represents a strategic shift for GiG, combining its technology-led business with a consumer-facing operator that already has an established presence in several African markets.
With the acquisition now completed, the focus will turn to integrating the business, maintaining regulatory compliance and identifying opportunities to build on 888AFRICA’s existing operations.
The deal highlights the continued interest in regulated African digital gaming markets and the role acquisitions can play in helping technology companies expand into new regions and business models.
